Outtest vs Shoplift

Shoplift and Outtest both judge tests on revenue per visitor rather than clicks. Shoplift does it inside Shopify. You duplicate a template or theme, edit it in the Theme Editor, and Shoplift splits traffic and matches Shopify orders to each variant. Its Lift Assist feature suggests test ideas and inserts the theme sections for you.

Outtest isn't tied to Shopify. It installs on Shopify, Webflow, Wix, WordPress or any site with one line of code, reads revenue from payment tools such as Stripe, Shopify, Paddle and Polar, and uses AI agents to find the leak, write the new version, run it and call the winner. It also tests trials, cancel flows, Meta ad copy and SEO. Shoplift has been on the Shopify App Store since 2022 and names brand customers on its site. Outtest is new and has none to show yet.

Pick Shoplift if

  • You're on a standard Shopify theme and want to test templates, whole themes or URL redirects with no code.
  • Your team already works in the Shopify Theme Editor and wants to keep building variants there.
  • You want ready-made theme sections such as sticky carts and countdown timers from Lift Assist.
  • You want a dedicated account manager and twice-monthly strategy sessions on the Pro plan.
  • You want to test product prices inside Shopify on the Advanced plan.

Pick Outtest if

  • You're not on Shopify, or your storefront is headless, which Shoplift doesn't support.
  • You want AI agents to decide what to test and run the whole loop, not only suggest sections.
  • You want to test beyond the storefront, such as trial length, cancel flows, onboarding copy, Meta ads or SEO.
  • You'd rather pay by tests per month, from $29, than by total store visitors.
  • You want a 5% holdout that shows what winners earned after the test ended.

The verdict

For a Shopify brand that wants to test themes and templates in the tools it already uses, Shoplift is a focused, well-reviewed option. Outtest suits businesses off Shopify, or teams that want AI to plan and run tests across pages, pricing, trials and ads from $29 a month. Shoplift has a track record and Outtest doesn't yet, which is worth weighing.

Questions people ask

How much does Shoplift cost?+

Core is $99 a month ($74 billed annually) for up to 50k monthly store visitors, and $199 ($149) for 50k to 100k. Advanced starts at $399 a month ($299 billed annually), and Pro, which is annual only, starts at $699 a month. Every plan has a 14-day free trial.

Does Shoplift work with headless Shopify stores?+

No. Its FAQ says headless storefronts built with custom frontends like Hydrogen or Next.js aren't supported, because Shoplift relies on Shopify's theme system to inject tests.

Can Shoplift test prices?+

Yes, on the Advanced plan and above. Shoplift updates the price visitors see on product pages, collection pages and in the cart, and says the correct price carries through to checkout.

What statistics does Shoplift use?+

Shoplift's pricing page describes Bayesian predictive analysis that also predicts how long a test needs to run. Results cover revenue per visitor, add-to-cart rate, click rate, bounce rate and more.

What happens if I go over my Shoplift visitor limit?+

Your tests pause and visitor data collection stops until you upgrade or your billing cycle resets. Limits count total store visitors, not only the visitors in tests.
