What you pay for
PostHog bills each product separately by usage, with a free allowance that resets every month. Experiments don't have their own meter. The pricing page says they're billed with feature flags. Two meters matter for testing.
- Feature flag requests. A request happens when an SDK initializes, when a user is identified, or when server code evaluates a flag. The first 1M a month are free, then $0.0001 each up to 2M, $0.000045 up to 10M, $0.000025 up to 50M and $0.00001 above that.
- Analytics events. Exposure events ($feature_flag_called) and your goal events count here. The first 1M are free, then $0.00005 each up to 2M and $0.0000343 up to 15M, falling further at higher volume.
Revenue metrics from Stripe add a third meter, data warehouse rows synced. The first 1M rows a month are free, then $0.000015 per row up to 10M.
Plans
The free plan needs no card, has 1 project and 1-year retention, and usage stops at the free limits. Pay-as-you-go keeps the same free allowance, then charges per unit, with 6 projects and 7-year retention. Optional platform add-ons cost $250 a month (Boost), $750 (Scale) and $2,000 (Enterprise). There's no trial of paid features, because the free tier fills that role, and annual plans with volume discounts are available through sales.
Worked example
A SaaS with 20,000 monthly users. These inputs are made up to show the maths.
- Flag requests. Each user triggers 100 requests a month, so 2M. The first 1M is free and the next 1M costs 1,000,000 x $0.0001 = $100.
- Events. Each user sends 150 events, so 3M. The first 1M is free, the second 1M costs 1,000,000 x $0.00005 = $50, and the third costs 1,000,000 x $0.0000343 = $34.30.
- Stripe rows. A small account syncing 200,000 rows a month stays free.
Total, $184.30 a month. Cut flag requests to 25 per user (500,000) and events to 50 per user (1M), and the bill is $0.
Costs that aren't on the price list
- Client SDKs make a flag request when they initialize, so apps that load often can use more requests than you expect. PostHog publishes a guide to cutting flag costs.
- SSO enforcement sits in the Boost add-on and RBAC in the Enterprise add-on.
- Engineering time. Most experiments need flag checks in code and someone to read the results.
PostHog Experiments vs Outtest on price
| Outtest | PostHog Experiments | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Founders and small teams who want tests run for them and judged on real revenue, without a CRO specialist. | Product engineers and startups already sending events to PostHog who want experiments on the same data, often inside the free tier. |
| Price | From $29/month (3 tests a month). 20% off yearly. | Free every month up to 1M feature flag requests and 1M analytics events, and experiments are billed as flag requests. Above that, flag requests start at $0.0001 each and get cheaper with volume. Pay-as-you-go has no platform fee. |

Questions people ask
How much does PostHog Experiments cost?+
Experiments are billed with feature flags. The first 1M flag requests each month are free, then $0.0001 per request up to 2M, getting cheaper with volume. Exposure and goal events count as analytics events, which are free up to 1M a month.
Is PostHog Experiments Bayesian or frequentist?+
PostHog offers both engines. The Bayesian engine reports the probability that a variant beats control, and you can turn on CUPED to reduce noise.
Can PostHog run no-code A/B tests?+
Yes, in beta. You build web experiments in the PostHog toolbar by editing text, CSS or HTML. PostHog says they suit simple changes and server-rendered sites, and that React, Vue or Angular apps can overwrite the changes.
Can PostHog judge an experiment on Stripe revenue?+
Yes, with setup. You connect Stripe as a data warehouse source, then add a data warehouse metric with join keys that link Stripe customers to PostHog users. Outtest judges every test on revenue per visitor from Stripe and other payment tools without that setup.
Does PostHog have a free trial?+
No, because the free tier covers every product each month with no card. You add a card when you need more than the free limits, more projects or the paid add-ons.
