What Convert is
Convert (the app is called Convert Experiences) is an A/B testing platform founded in 2009 by Dennis van der Heijden and Claudiu Rogoveanu. The company is bootstrapped, remote-first and registered in Delaware, and it says it has optimized 40,000 sites over 15 years. Unlike Optimizely and VWO, it publishes its prices.
Building and running tests
Growth covers A/B and split URL tests, a visual editor and code editor, advanced targeting and goals, heatmaps, a QA wizard and sample ratio mismatch checks. Pro adds multivariate and multi-page tests, full-stack testing and feature flags, multi-armed bandit allocation, sequential testing, change history, SSO and phone support. Convert markets its SmartInsert technology as flicker-free, and data sits on servers in Frankfurt with first-party cookies only. Heatmaps and session recordings don't count against your tested-user quota.
Stats
Convert supports frequentist and Bayesian analysis, and you can read the same data both ways. Frequentist tests use t-tests with a choice of confidence level, one or two tails, and Bonferroni or Sidak corrections. Bayesian reports show the probability that a variation beats the control, with a 90, 95 or 99% decision threshold. Sequential testing, based on asymptotic confidence sequences, lets you check results while data comes in without inflating error rates. It's on Pro and above.
AI features
The AI Wizard in the visual editor suggests alternative copy, such as new headlines and supporting text. The Convert MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex and other MCP clients to your account, so they can read results, run audits and create tests as reviewable drafts. It's included with Growth, Pro and Enterprise. Convert Intelligence, in beta, brings the same abilities inside the app. People keep control of access, pausing and deletion.
Revenue tracking
On Shopify, Convert's app installs the tracking script and follows add-to-cart and purchase events through Shopify Pixels and order webhooks, so revenue doesn't rely on the order confirmation page. You still create the goals in Convert first and map the Shopify events to them. Convert lists 90+ integrations, including BigCommerce, WooCommerce and Magento, and API access on every plan.
Support
Growth includes email and chat support, and Pro adds phone support. Support covers how to use features, not custom development or test design, and Convert refers that work to certified agency partners.
Who it suits
Convert fits agencies and in-house CRO teams that want an established tool, full control over stats and targeting, strong privacy defaults and a price they can see before a call. The Growth plan's active projects and domains help agencies run several clients. It fits less well for a small site that can't justify $299 a month, or a team with nobody to plan and analyze tests.
Pros and cons
What Convert does well
- Published prices and a 15-day free trial with no credit card.
- Frequentist and Bayesian stats on every plan, and you can read the same test either way. Sequential testing on Pro.
- The Shopify app tracks purchases through Shopify Pixels and order webhooks, so revenue doesn't depend on the order confirmation page.
- First-party cookies only, and servers in Frankfurt, Germany.
- An MCP server on every paid plan lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other AI tools read results and create draft tests.
- Heatmaps and session recordings included, without using up your tested-user quota.
Where it falls short
- The entry price is $299 a month billed annually, or $399 month to month, which is a lot for a small site.
- Full-stack testing, multivariate tests and sequential testing need Pro, at $420 a month or more.
- Tested users above 100,000 a month cost extra, $399 per 100,000 on Growth.
- Revenue still needs setting up. On Shopify you create goals in Convert first and map the store events to them.
- Support won't do custom development or test design, and Convert doesn't offer in-house testing services.
