Warehouse-native experimentation

Eppo review

Eppo is a warehouse-native experimentation platform with sequential, fixed-sample and Bayesian analysis, and since Datadog bought it in 2025 it has become Datadog Experiments, priced from $450 per launched experiment a month. It's built for data teams with a warehouse, not for small teams that want quick marketing tests.
What it is

Best for
Data teams at larger companies that want experiment results computed on source-of-truth metrics in their own warehouse, especially teams already on Datadog.

What happened to Eppo

Eppo was a San Francisco experimentation company led by co-founder and CEO Che Sharma. Datadog announced it had acquired Eppo in May 2025. Terms weren't disclosed, and TechCrunch cited a report putting the deal at about $220M. At first it ran as Eppo by Datadog. On April 2, 2026 Datadog launched Datadog Experiments, powered by Eppo, as a generally available product, and geteppo.com now says Eppo is Datadog Experiments. The Eppo docs site is still online under the Eppo by Datadog name.

How it works

Eppo sits on top of your data warehouse and supports Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift and Databricks. You map exposure records and business metrics to it with SQL models, so results come from the same tables your data team already uses. In Datadog you can also build metrics from Product Analytics or RUM events, such as a count of events, unique users or the sum of a property.

Assignment runs through Datadog Feature Flags, where you pass a stable user ID as the targeting key, or through your own randomization in warehouse mode. You don't need Product Analytics to run experiments.

There's no point-and-click page editor. Eppo's docs describe no-code tests through JSON flags, where developers parameterize parts of a page once and then change values in Eppo without a release. A Contentful integration lets marketers create experiments on CMS content inside Contentful.

Stats

Datadog Experiments offers sequential frequentist, fixed-sample frequentist and Bayesian analysis. It adds CUPED++ variance reduction, a sample size calculator, automatic sample ratio mismatch detection and a Global Lift view that turns a targeted result into company-wide impact.

Inside Datadog

The Datadog version connects experiments to observability. If you use RUM, you can watch latency, errors and Core Web Vitals per variant to catch performance regressions, and open session replays from the results.

Revenue

There's no payment tool connector. Revenue metrics work if your Stripe or billing data already lands in your warehouse. If it doesn't, you need a pipeline first.

AI

Neither the Datadog Experiments product page nor its docs describe AI that suggests tests or writes variations.

Who it suits

It suits companies with a data warehouse, a data team and a few high-value experiments a month, especially if they already run Datadog. Customers named on geteppo.com include DraftKings, ClickUp, Zapier, Miro and Twitch. It's a poor fit for a small team that wants to test landing pages this week without writing SQL.

Pros and cons

What Eppo does well

  • Warehouse native. Results come from SQL models over your Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift or Databricks tables, so they match the numbers your data team already reports.
  • Sequential, fixed-sample and Bayesian analysis, with CUPED++ variance reduction and automatic sample ratio mismatch checks.
  • Unlimited seats, metrics and analyses, and you only pay for experiments that reach 500 subjects and 3 days of data.
  • Inside Datadog, you can watch latency, errors and Core Web Vitals per variant and open session replays from results.
  • You can keep your own flag system and analyze exposures from the warehouse, or run end to end on Datadog Feature Flags.

Where it falls short

  • Expensive for small teams. One experiment a month costs $450 on an annual plan.
  • No point-and-click page editor. Variants are built in code, set through JSON flags, or edited in Contentful through its integration.
  • You need a data warehouse and people who can write SQL models to get the most from it.
  • No payment tool integration. Revenue has to be in your warehouse first.
  • The brand is in transition. Eppo is now Datadog Experiments, and the older Eppo site and docs still sit alongside the Datadog ones.

Questions people ask

Was Eppo acquired by Datadog?+

Yes. Datadog announced the acquisition in May 2025 and ran the product as Eppo by Datadog. On April 2, 2026 it launched Datadog Experiments, powered by Eppo, and geteppo.com now says Eppo is Datadog Experiments.

How much does Eppo cost?+

Eppo is now priced as Datadog Experiments at $450 per launched experiment a month billed annually, $530 month to month or $575 on demand. An experiment only counts once it reaches 500 subjects and 3 days of data, and seats are unlimited.

Does Eppo have a visual editor?+

Not a point-and-click page editor. Eppo's docs describe no-code tests through JSON flags that developers set up once, and a Contentful integration lets marketers build experiments on CMS content.

What stats does Eppo use?+

Datadog Experiments supports sequential frequentist, fixed-sample frequentist and Bayesian analysis, with CUPED++ variance reduction and automatic sample ratio mismatch checks.

Can Eppo measure revenue from Stripe?+

Only through your warehouse. There's no payment tool connector, so Stripe data has to land in Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift or Databricks first. Outtest reads revenue from Stripe and other payment tools directly and judges every test on revenue per visitor.
