A/B testing and personalization

Webflow Optimize review

Webflow Optimize adds A/B testing, rules-based personalization and AI-driven variant delivery directly to the Webflow editor. It's convenient for Webflow teams, but it costs from $299 a month on top of a site plan, and tests are judged on clicks, page views, forms or custom events rather than revenue.

What Webflow Optimize is

Optimize is a paid add-on for Webflow sites that adds A/B testing and personalization. It grew out of Intellimize, an AI personalization and conversion optimization company that Webflow announced it had acquired in April 2024, and it now lives inside the Webflow editor. On Webflow sites you build variations in the Designer. Sites built elsewhere can run Optimize through a JavaScript snippet placed high in the page head, with pricing handled by Webflow's sales team. We found no server-side SDK for Optimize in Webflow's docs.

Ways to run an optimization

Each optimization targets a page or element and holds one or more variations. A traditional test splits traffic by fixed percentages and names a single winner once results reach statistical significance. Manual personalization shows set variations to defined audiences, such as visitors from a UTM campaign or a region, and runs until you stop it. Either type can be switched to AI-optimized mode, where machine learning serves each visitor the variation most likely to convert them and keeps adapting as you add new variations.

Goals and results

Every optimization has a target goal. Goal types include clicks, page views, an automatic AutoGoal that tracks what visitors do after seeing a variation, form submissions through the HubSpot or Marketo integrations, and custom goals that your site code fires with JavaScript, for example on checkout completion. Site goals, such as total revenue or demo requests, can be added to every optimization for tracking.

There's no direct connection to a payment tool, so judging a test on revenue means wiring up custom events yourself. Webflow's help center explains statistical significance in general terms but doesn't name the method behind it.

AI Assistant and targeting

The AI Assistant recommends best practices and generates ideas you can launch as variations. Targeting covers device type, location, traffic source, UTM parameters and behavior such as pages viewed and session frequency. Webflow says its rules-based personalization works without collecting personally identifiable information or using cookies. Enterprise adds Enhanced Match with firmographic data, plus integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, Marketo, 6sense and Demandbase. Webflow also lists integrations that send Optimize view events to GA4, Mixpanel or Segment.

Limits and billing

Self-serve Optimize allows up to five concurrent optimizations and is priced by monthly page views. It needs a paid site plan, and Webflow's help center says site add-ons aren't available on Starter or Ecommerce site plans. If you exceed your page views, surge protection waives the first month. A second month in a row over the limit moves you up a tier automatically, with the new charges that come with it. Canceling requires turning off tracking and republishing, and historic data is lost when tracking is off.

Who it suits

Optimize fits marketing teams that already build in Webflow, especially B2B sites that want personalization and measure success in leads. It's a harder sell for small sites on a tight budget, for Webflow Ecommerce stores, and for anyone who needs tests judged on revenue without custom code.

Pros and cons

What Webflow Optimize does well

  • Variations are built in the same Webflow Designer as the site, with no separate tool to learn.
  • One add-on covers A/B/n tests, rules-based personalization and AI Optimize, which serves each visitor the variation most likely to convert them.
  • The AI Assistant suggests ideas you can launch as variations.
  • Targeting by device, location, traffic source, UTM and behavior, which Webflow says works without cookies or personal data.
  • Surge protection means a one-off traffic spike doesn't trigger extra charges.
  • Can also run on non-Webflow sites through a JavaScript snippet.

Where it falls short

  • Starts at $299 a month billed yearly for 25,000 page views, plus a paid site plan.
  • Webflow's help center says site add-ons, including Optimize, aren't available on Starter or Ecommerce site plans.
  • Goals are clicks, page views, form submissions or custom JavaScript events. There's no payment-tool connection for judging tests on revenue.
  • Self-serve tiers allow up to five concurrent optimizations.
  • Webflow doesn't publish the statistical method behind its significance figure.
  • Two months in a row over the page-view limit triggers an automatic upgrade to a pricier tier.

Questions people ask

How much does Webflow Optimize cost?+

$299 a month billed yearly, or $379 month to month, for up to 25,000 page views a month. Tiers go up to $1,199 a month billed yearly ($1,499 monthly) for 500,000 page views. You also need a paid site plan, from $15 a month billed yearly.

Is Webflow Optimize included in Webflow site plans?+

No. It's an optional add-on for paid site plans such as Basic and Premium, and Webflow's help center says site add-ons aren't available on Starter or Ecommerce site plans. Enterprise customers get Optimize Enterprise through sales.

Can I use Webflow Optimize on a non-Webflow site?+

Yes. Webflow says non-Webflow sites can deploy Optimize with a JavaScript snippet placed high in the page head. Pricing for non-Webflow sites goes through its sales team.

What does AI Optimize do?+

AI Optimize serves each visitor the variation most likely to convert them, based on the optimization's target goal, and keeps learning as visitor behavior shifts. You create the variations and the AI decides who sees which one.

Can Webflow Optimize measure revenue?+

Not from a payment tool directly. Goals can be clicks, page views, form submissions through HubSpot or Marketo, or custom goals your site code fires with JavaScript, and a site goal such as total revenue can be tracked that way. Outtest instead reads revenue per visitor from the payment tool.
