How GrowthBook charges

GrowthBook charges per seat, not per visitor. A seat is one person with a login. Flags, experiments and traffic are unlimited on every cloud plan. Usage fees apply to three things: CDN requests (SDKs fetching your feature config), bandwidth, and events in GrowthBook's managed warehouse if you use it instead of your own.

The plans

  • Starter, $0. Up to 3 users, 1 project, 1M managed warehouse events, 1M CDN requests and 5GB bandwidth a month.
  • Pro, $40 per seat a month. Up to 30 users and 3 projects. 2M managed warehouse events (then $30 per 1M), 2M CDN requests (then $10 per 1M) and 20GB bandwidth (then $1 per GB). Adds the AI visual editor, sequential testing, CUPED and bandits.
  • Enterprise, custom. Unlimited seats, SSO and SCIM, approval workflows and a 99.99% uptime SLA.
  • Open source, self-hosted, $0. Unlimited users, bring your own warehouse, community support. Self-hosted Enterprise is custom.

The pricing page doesn't mention a free trial of Pro, so Starter is the way to try it.

Worked example

A SaaS with 20,000 monthly users and 3 people who need logins. These inputs are made up to show the maths.

  • Starter allows 3 users, so the seat cost is $0. Assume each user views 25 pages a month and each page view makes one CDN request. That's 500,000 requests, inside the 1M allowance.
  • Pro with 3 seats is 3 x $40 = $120 a month. A fourth teammate makes it $160.
  • If you use the managed warehouse and each user sends 150 events, that's 3M events. Pro includes 2M, so the extra 1M costs $30, for $150 in total with 3 seats.

Visitors barely move the bill. Headcount does. A 15-person team on Pro pays $600 a month before usage.

Costs that aren't on the price list

  • Self-hosting is free to license, but you pay for servers and the time to run upgrades, backups and uptime.
  • Warehouse-native analysis runs SQL in your own warehouse, so check what those queries cost on your warehouse plan.
  • Someone has to write and maintain Fact Tables and metric definitions. That's usually the biggest cost for small teams.

Questions people ask

Is GrowthBook free?+

Yes, in two ways. The open-source version is free to self-host with unlimited users, and the cloud Starter plan is free for up to 3 users. Pro is $40 per seat a month, and Enterprise is custom.

Can I self-host GrowthBook?+

Yes. The repository ships a Docker Compose setup, so you can clone it and run docker compose up. Most of the code is MIT licensed, and some enterprise features sit under a separate commercial license.

Does GrowthBook use Bayesian or frequentist statistics?+

Both. Bayesian is the default, and you can switch to frequentist per organization or project. Sequential testing is available for frequentist analysis, and CUPED works with either engine.

Does GrowthBook need a data warehouse?+

It's built to query your own warehouse, such as BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks or Postgres. If you don't have one, cloud plans include a managed warehouse with 1M events a month on Starter and 2M on Pro.

Can GrowthBook measure revenue from Stripe?+

Not directly. There's no native Stripe connector, so revenue has to reach your warehouse or the managed warehouse first, and then you define a SQL metric such as a SUM of order totals. Outtest reads revenue straight from Stripe and other payment tools and judges every test on revenue per visitor.
